Joplin Library Okay

I just wanted to let everyone know that those of us at the library are okay. All the employees made it through, we had 6 lose houses completely and others have damage. It's amazing how many library books we've already had to set to lost. The library had no damage luckily. I will try to keep everyone updated. It's been really crazy though.

  1. It's good to hear that all of your staff are okay. We'll continue to watch for updates from St. Louis.

  2. I was thinking that many of Joplin's citizens have lost most, if not all, of their personal libraries. I am considering a book drive here in Houston to donate directly to those in Joplin who want to restore their personal libraries. Is this something that the Joplin Library would be interested in?

  3. I'm so glad to hear that you and your staff are all ok. My family lived in Joplin for many years (I'm an MSSCnowU alum and my mom worked there in the Post library when I was little) and I still think of it as a second home. We're just an hour down the road, so please let us know if there's anything we can do to help.

  4. Steve, sorry it took so long to reply to your comment. Right now we are swamped with book donations. Everyone has brought in their old, musty paperbacks and Reader Digest Condensed books thinking that is exactly what we need. I will mention it to my director. I would think maybe in a month or two when people have house situations better in had, that it might be a possibility. Right now though, so many people are trying just to find a house to buy or rent.
Thank you for thinking of us though.
